Pam Taylor

Buzz words like green, natural, organic, nontoxic and even clean are thrown around with little regard for accuracy, these days, making it difficult to pin down their true meanings in the context of building construction and home furnishings. Pam Taylor brings a level of knowledge to the discussion not easily found elsewhere.

In 1985 she and her husband established Tad Taylor’s Healthy Homes for the purpose of designing and building totally nontoxic houses for people with severe chemical sensitivities.  Tad’s expertise and his emergence as the leading authority in the field developed out of necessity, to deal with his own health issues and his desire to help others with related ailments.  His extensive knowledge regarding the identification and remediation of sub odor level toxins resulted from his own sensitivities which provided him with a unique perspective on these problems.

While Tad focused on the exterior design and construction of healthy homes, Pam put the principles of their combined research to work to create interiors that would be harmonious both with the clients’ aesthetics and the structures’ lack of toxicity.  Over the years, she has assembled a network of resources for furniture, rugs and accessories that can satisfy the special needs of clients with health limitations, allergies and chemical sensitivities.

Pam’s long and varied experience with interior design has by no means been limited to her endeavors mentioned above.  She has completed projects for everyone from Hollywood celebrities to the US Navy. Most of her clients don’t have special health needs but more and more are interested in minimizing unhealthy elements in their environments in keeping with their personal philosophies about caring for themselves and the planet.

Pam is a wizard at working in a simple step-by-step process that makes it easy for her clients to visualize the transformation of their spaces. This begins with a presentation of a preliminary design concept that expresses her understanding of the clients’ requests, using realistic renderings, photographic layouts, fabric selection sets. At this point, adjustments can be made to satisfy visual and practical concerns. Next, timetables for continued design work and procurement of materials and furnishings are presented for client approval along with detailed estimates for products and services.

Pam and her assistants work at hourly rates so her clients can control and prioritize expenses. A project can be organized in phases with all activities and purchases clearly outlined. Thus clients decide how time is spent in any area and may choose to add or delete things as the project moves along.  This arrangement allows work to progress at a comfortable and orderly pace.

All contracts and invoices for products and services are the responsibility of A Candle in the Night and all payments are to be made to the same.
